Art Ernst

Art ErnstArt joined Byrne Asset in 2006, bringing with him 25 years of experience in economics and fixed income portfolio management. Art serves as Byrne Asset Management’s Chief Operating Officer and Head of Fixed Income Portfolio Management.

Art’s driving interest in economics and investment management began over 30 years ago at Rutgers College where he was the recipient of the Eugene E. Agger Memorial Award, granted to the top economics student in the graduating class.

Art began his career at First Investors Corporation where he served as Assistant to the Chairman, developing systems for investment analysis and retirement plans. In 1984 Art became a fixed income portfolio manager and the firm’s economist. Managing two mutual funds, a $350 million pool of government securities and a $300 million hybrid of high yield and convertible bonds, Art outpaced his Lipper-based peers in 22 out of 30 quarters. Subsequently, Art managed a $900 million portfolio of high-grade bonds at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

In the years between leaving the Foundation and joining Byrne, Art served as an independent consultant, advising small companies in the areas of finance and communications. He bought one of those companies, a local art manufacturer, which he then led to 20-fold growth in seven years as its CEO. In his career, Art has established small company retirement plans for over 5000 employees, advised hundreds of families, managed co-mingled assets helping tens of thousands, and written consumerist articles published in several journals.

Art is a graduate of the Wharton Graduate School of Business (M.B.A. Finance 1984) and Rutgers College (B.A. Economics, Highest Distinction, 1981).

He is the author of Wall Street Is Legally Scamming You, available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
