A 401(k) where employees talk to a real financial planner

Every employee can sit down with a CFP® who looks at their whole financial picture, not just which fund to pick. One team handles payroll, compliance, and the questions employees would otherwise take to HR. Fees are itemized, with no revenue sharing.

The Problem

Two Problems We Solve

Most small-business 401(k) plans create both. We’re built to fix both.

Employees don’t use the plan they have

Most plans come with a website and an 800 number. Employees don’t call and don’t log in. When a real question finally comes up, they take it to HR, who can’t really answer it. The benefit exists, but it isn’t doing much.

Administration creates work nobody asked for

Contributions that don’t match. Payroll feeds that break. Multiple vendors pointing at each other. These problems land on someone’s desk, usually without warning, and usually at the worst time.

Who It’s For

Built for New Jersey Small and Mid-Sized Businesses

From our office in Kingston, we work with small and mid-sized New Jersey companies whose owners want a retirement benefit their employees will actually use, without taking on a second job to run it.

Because we’re a small team that does the work ourselves, every employee can get real time with a planner instead of a hold queue, and you get one person who knows your plan. A local firm a short drive away, run by people who answer their own phones.

The Service

Better for Employees. Less Work for You.

What Employees Get
  • A real CFP, not a call center

Every employee can schedule time with a CFP® who reviews their whole financial picture, not just which fund to pick.

  • Time with someone who knows their situation

Scheduled appointments with a planner who has their full picture in front of them, and answers follow-up questions directly.

  • A written plan, in plain language

They leave each meeting with a written action list they can actually use, not a login and a glossary.

What Employers Get
  • Questions go to us, not HR

Employees stop bringing retirement questions to HR because they have someone better to ask.

  • One number, one accountable team

A single contact for payroll coordination, compliance, and employee questions. One call reaches someone who knows your plan and can act on it.

  • Problems caught before they reach you

We connect to your payroll system and reconcile every pay run against custodian records, flagging exceptions before they become your problem.

  • Reporting without the chase

Quarterly reporting that shows what happened and what’s coming, without you having to follow up with anyone.

The Process

How We Set Up Your Plan

  • 1

    Initial conversation

We learn how your company works and what isn’t working with your current plan. You get a proposal with itemized pricing and no hidden fees.

  • 2

    Plan setup and payroll connection

We prepare the plan documents, connect to your payroll system, and test the contribution flow before anything goes live. You review and approve each step.

  • 3

    Employee enrollment

Employees schedule time with a CFP® who reviews their situation and gives them a written action plan. That access continues after enrollment.

  • 4

    Ongoing administration

We handle compliance testing, required filings, and participant notices, and send regular updates on what’s done and what’s scheduled next.

Fees

Find Out What You’re Actually Paying

The pitch isn’t that we’re cheaper. It’s that there’s nothing to hide. Send us your current fee disclosure and we’ll show you a line-by-line comparison: what you pay now, what you’d pay with us, and where the difference sits.

No revenue sharing. No fees buried in the fund lineup. Every cost itemized before you decide. If switching doesn’t make sense, we’ll tell you.

Why BAM Runs Your Plan

Institutional Sophistication. Individual Attention.

BAM is fee-only and employee-owned, founded in Princeton in 1998, and advises on approximately $2 billion in total assets. Your plan runs on a low-cost index core with model portfolios our own investment team builds and monitors. Every employee can sit with a CFP® and reach a portfolio manager directly, the same team that runs the firm’s institutional work.

Questions

Common Questions

Who actually meets with employees?
CFP® professionals on our team, including Art Ernst, CFP®. They meet with employees one-on-one to review the whole financial situation, not just fund selection. You can meet the team before deciding anything.
How does payroll integration work?
We integrate with ADP and Paychex. We map each contribution type, test the feed before launch, and reconcile every pay run against custodian records. When something doesn’t match, we find it and resolve it before it reaches you.
How are you paid?
We’re a fee-only adviser. Our compensation comes entirely from advisory fees, disclosed in our SEC-filed Form ADV. No commissions, no revenue sharing, no payments from fund companies.
What if we compare and decide not to switch?
The comparison is useful either way. If switching doesn’t make sense, or your current plan is already working well, we’ll say so. There’s no obligation.

See How Your Current Plan Compares

In a 15-minute call we’ll review how your plan is structured, what’s working, and what a transition would involve. If it’s worth continuing, we’ll put together a fee comparison you can review on your own time.
